Embracing Ghana's LPG Future

Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM)

An NPA-led approach to LPG distribution designed to improve safety, accessibility and efficiency in how LPG reaches consumers across Ghana.

What it is

Exchange, not refill

Under the Cylinder Recirculation Model, filled cylinders are made available through designated exchange and distribution points, rather than requiring consumers to refill their personally owned cylinders.

The National Petroleum Authority describes CRM as part of the transformation of LPG distribution toward safer, more accessible and more efficient supply, and has highlighted safety, improved access and job creation as important aspects of the transition.

The NPA has also indicated that CRM is being developed alongside efforts to protect existing LPG-sector investments — so the traditional model is evolving rather than simply disappearing.

The cylinder journey

Follow a cylinder through the recirculation cycle

Step 1 of 6

Bottling Plant

Cylinders are filled and quality-checked at a licensed bottling facility.

The cycle repeats: every returned cylinder is inspected and recirculated, keeping cylinders in managed condition rather than in unknown private circulation.
